Introduction:
The following tender is for a complete
“ready-to-use” liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometer system with all the necessary hardware and software to operate the instrumentation. The primary use of the system will be to quantify electrospray
ionizable metabolites. The following specifications are intended to assist vendors in producing a proposal which meets or exceeds the desired function of the proposed instrumentation.
Required:
The system must include the
following:
- A triple quadrupole mass spectrometer having the following requirements:
o An ESI source
o An orthogonal-based, off axis-based, or Z-Spray-based ion source
o An automated syringe pump (preferably mounted or
integrated into the mass spectrometer) for direct injection or infusion
o All rotary vacuum backing pumps with necessary tubing
o All turbo pumps with necessary tubing
o All necessary tubing and connectors
o Any necessary
pre-installation kit(s)
o Any necessary tools for disassembly/reassembly, for its routine maintenance
o Can readily be integrated with the accompanying (U)HPLC system
o Performance specifications:
 Cover a mass to
charge (m/z) range between 10 and 2,040;
 A dynamic range of 5 orders of magnitude or better;
 Have a scan rate of at least 15,000 Da/s;
 Have a multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) acquisition rate of
at least 500 MRM/s or better;
 Have a minimum MRM dwell time of 1 ms or lower;
 Have a mass accuracy of 0.5 Da or better, and a mass stability of 0.1 Da/d or better;
 Have a polarity switching time of
25 ms or lower;
 Signal to noise ratio of at least 75,000:1 for 1 pg of reserpine during MRM in positive ion mode with electrospray ionization (ESI);
 Signal to noise ratio of at least 30,000:1 for 1 pg
chloramphenicol during MRM in negative ion mode with ESI;
- A liquid chromatography system with autosampler, having the following requirements:
o An HPLC-based or UHPLC-based system with a flow rate of up to 600 bar (for
UHPLC), or better
o A binary or quaternary pump capable of supporting up to 4 solvents
o An integrated degasser
o An autosampler capable of withdrawing samples from vials, and optionally from plates
o A standard UV/VIS-based
or DAD-based detector that is compatible with the (U)HPLC system
o All necessary tubing and connectors
o Any necessary pre-installation kit(s)
o Any necessary tools for disassembly/reassembly, for its routine maintenance
o
Can readily be integrated with the accompanying mass spectrometer
- A nitrogen gas generator, having the following requirements:
o A compressor based generator using atmospheric air, and not external compressed air
o Capable
of an appropriate volume per minute and appropriate pressure to supply all components of the complete liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometer system
o All necessary tubing and connectors
o Any necessary
pre-installation kit(s)
o Any necessary tools for disassembly/reassembly, for its routine maintenance
o Can readily be integrated with the accompanying mass spectrometer
- A computer and software package to run the complete
liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometer system:
o A Windows-based (preferably Windows 10) desktop computer with sufficient hard drive space for all necessary software and data storage, a CD/DVD drive, at
least 2 USB ports, an Ethernet card, and an 802.11a/b/g/n wireless card or USB-based adapter
o A flat screen computer monitor, standard keyboard, and standard mouse, plus accompanying cables
o The inclusion of a laser
printer with the computer system.
o All necessary software for running both the mass spectrometer, autosampler, and (U)HPLC system
o All necessary software for data acquisition and analysis, that may also have the capability
to export information into Microsoft Office programs, and that may also have the capability to convert proprietary mass spectrometry data-formatted files into universal formats
o All necessary computer data cables to network
all instruments
- Any necessary power transformers for the complete liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometer system
- All necessary power cables
All electrical components of the complete system must be ready
to use on conventional United States or Canada 110-120 AC voltage lines at 60 Hz, and/or on conventional United States or Canada 230 AC voltage lines at 60 Hz.
All electrical components of the system must be certified by an
approved testing agency that has been accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (i.e. CSA, ULC, etc.).
A complete copy of all manuals associated with the operating procedures of all hardware, maintenance procedures and
servicing information is required. In addition, a complete copy of all manuals associated with accompanying software is required.
Onsite installation and certification of installation of the complete system is
required.
Onsite training on the complete system is required for at least three individuals.
All items that comprise of the complete system must have a minimum warranty period of three years for parts and labour. Vendors
must include preventative maintenance visits in their bid. Annual visits are preferred (three total), but a minimum of two are required. Bidders are also required to ensure that they respond within a reasonable time frame in
the event of a system breakdown.
Optional:
One or more of the following options would be welcomed for consideration with the package on the condition that the required funding is available. Vendors are requested to include
these options as separate line items in their bid.
- Inclusion of additional mass spectrometer system(s), or additional separation systems with an adaptor to couple with the mass spectrometer requested in this tender call.
-
Inclusion of additional ionization sources designed for the mass spectrometer, such as (but not limited to) APGC, APCI and EI. These additional sources may be part of the same ESI source.
- The inclusion of an
uninterruptable power supply for the complete system.
- The inclusion of a supercritical fluid chromatography module.
- Inclusion of packages with (U)HPLC columns, reagents, and solvents.
- The inclusion of Apple/Mac
compatible software for data analyses.
- The optional inclusion of additional software packages, such as: metabolomics and lipidomics software packages, advanced data analyses software packages, advanced statistical analyses
software packages, and spectra libraries.
- The option to purchase warranty extensions and maintenance packages post-receipt of the complete system:
o The instrument must come with a minimal 3-year warranty and preventative
maintenance visits, as noted above. Bidders are required to provide pricing on additional yearly warranties for up to five years (listed as one year intervals) as an optional line item (or items) in their quote; the
additional yearly warranties are to be beyond the minimal required warranty. Bidders are to include specific details as to what is included in the additional warranties.
o Bidders are also required to quote additional
preventative maintenance visits included as an optional separate line item in their bid.
o Bidders may quote the cost of preventative maintenance kit(s) only (i.e., the necessary replacement parts only). If quoted, include
